How can I make my configurator multilingual?

You can offer your configurator in multiple languages. You can enter the language content individually or maintain translations in a table.

Prerequisites

Adding Another Language

By default, the configurator is available in German and English, and the content is set to German. You can change the language in the editor’s menu bar under Content: DE.

tip

Do not confuse this language setting for the content with the language setting in your Profil. That setting determines the language in which the K3 administration interface is displayed.

To add another language:

  • Go to the
    Loading...
  • Select Languages.
  • The front end can be switched to a specific language by appending the parameter &lang=fr or similar.
  • The first language listed here is used when the configurator is launched without an explicit language selection.

Entering Language Content

  • Open the configurator’s editor.
  • Click
    Loading...
    in the menu bar.
  • Select the language in which you want to maintain content.
  • Text that you have not yet translated will now be displayed in square brackets []. You can enter the translations directly.

Translating System Messages

The K3 provides prompts to its users in many places. For example, when a user selects an invalid option, clicks the AR button on the desktop, or views the summary before placing an order. You can customize and translate all of these texts by clicking the pencil icon.

Performing Translations

  • Open the configurator’s options.
  • Go to the Languages tab.
  • There you’ll see a table containing all the configurator’s texts in all languages.
  • You can translate all texts directly in the table.
  • Alternatively, you can download an Excel sheet and, for example, send it to a translator. If you do not change the structure of the file, you can import the texts back into the configurator afterward.

Switching Languages in the Running Configurator

By default, the language is set when the configurator starts—using the first language created or the parameter &lang=fr. If you want your users to be able to change the language themselves, insert the layout component <LanguageSwitcher /> into your Layout.

  • The language switcher appears only where you place it in the layout—it is not displayed automatically.
  • All content languages created here are available for selection, in the order in which you created them.
  • The switch takes place without reloading the page: labels, attribute and value texts, as well as notes, are updated immediately.
  • The configuration is preserved: selected values, price, and 3D view remain unchanged.
  • If you have created only one content language, the component displays nothing.

Next Steps

  • If you send Mails with PDFs, you’ll likely want to customize these texts as well.
