imprints on pictures
End customers can insert their own images and text into defined print areas. This enables personalization such as logos, names or individual graphics on your products.
Requirements
- You have created a Bilderstapel-Konfigurator.
- You have created views.
- You have defined print areas and specified their position.
Set up print areas
Before you can enable overprints, you must define print areas:
Create print area
- Open the editor of your configurator.
- Select a view under Home > Views and layers.
- Click on Loading....
- Enter a name for the print area (e.g. "Personalization", "Logo area", "Name field").
- Click on Loading....
Use names that are understandable for end customers. These may appear in the user interface.
Set position and size
- Click on the Resize icon for a print area.
- A visual view opens.
- Position the print area by dragging it.
- Change the size by dragging the corners.
- Click on Loading....
The print area should be large enough to accommodate different content sizes, but not too large so that the design does not look cluttered.
Uploaded images as imprint
End customers can upload their own images (e.g. logos, photos) and place them in print areas.
Set up image imprint
- Create an image feature.
- Switch to the Actions tab.
- Check the Display uploaded image in print area box.
- Select the Print area in which the image is to be displayed.
- Specify which interaction options the user should have:
- Move: The user can move the image within the print area
- Rotate: The user can rotate the image
- Scale: The user can enlarge/reduce the image
- Click on Loading....
This action is only available for image features.
What the end customer sees
- An upload button for uploading an image
- The uploaded image appears in the defined print area
- Depending on the settings, the customer can move, rotate and/or scale the image
- The image always remains within the print area
Texts as overprint
With text features, you have even more design options than with images.
Set up text overprint
- Create a text feature.
- Switch to the Actions tab.
- Check the Display text in print area box.
- Select the Print area in which the text is to be displayed.
This action is only available for text features.
Define interaction options
Determine what the user can do with the text:
- Move: The text can be moved within the print area
- Rotate: The text can be rotated
- Scale: The text can be enlarged/reduced
Configure text display
You can define the standard display of the text:
- Font: Choose from available fonts
- Size: Set the default font size
- Bold: Display text in bold
- Italic: Display text in italics
- Color: The text color
- Horizontal alignment: Left, centered or right
- Vertical alignment: Top, center or bottom
Customization options for end customers
For each display property, you can specify whether the end customer is allowed to change it:
- Check the appropriate boxes next to the properties that the customer is allowed to customize
- Properties without a tick are fixed and cannot be changed
- Maximum control: Allow only movement and scaling, all other properties are fixed
- Maximum flexibility: Allow all customization so that the client can fully design the text
- Recommended: A middle ground - allow color and size, but keep the font under control
Saving configurations
When an end customer saves their configuration, all imprint data is saved:
- Uploaded images with their position, rotation and scaling
- Input texts with their formatting, position and all styling properties
- Rendering: All views are generated as finished images in the size of the respective view
You can then use these images for
- Production documents
- Previews in order confirmations
- Print templates
- Quality control
Practical example: T-shirt with logo and name
Here is a complete example of a customizable T-shirt configurator:
Step 1: Create views and print areas
- Create a "Front" view
- Create a "Logo area" print area (center, chest height)
- Create a "Name field" print area (bottom, center)
Step 2: Configure image feature for logo
- Create a "Customer logo" image feature
- Make it optional (tick "Optional")
- Tab Actions: Activate "Show uploaded image in print area"
- Select the "Logo area" print area
- Activate: Move, Rotate, Scale
- Save as
Step 3: Configure text feature for names
- Create a "Customer name" text feature
- Make it optional
- Tab Actions: Activate "Show text in print area"
- Select the "Name field" print area
- Interaction: Move and scale
- Appearance:
- Font: A nice, clear font
- Size: 24
- Color: Black
- Alignment: Centered
- End user customizations: Check mark for "Color" and "Size"
- Save
Result
The customer can now:
- Upload their own logo and position it on the chest
- Enter their name
- Change the text color and size
- Arrange both elements in the defined areas
Tips and best practices
Print area planning
- Placement: Consider where imprints are typically placed (t-shirt: chest, back; mug: center)
- Proportion: Print area should be approximately 60-80% of expected job size to allow flexibility
- Multiple areas: For larger products, you can offer multiple print areas (front, back, sleeves)
User guidance
- Clear designations: Use clear names such as "Logo front", "Text back"
- Standard values: Set sensible default values for text sizes and colors
- Restrictions: Think carefully about what freedom you give the customer - too many options can be confusing
Image quality
- Minimum resolution: Set a minimum resolution for uploaded images
- File types: Recommend PNG for logos (due to transparency)
- Size limits: Set reasonable file size limits (e.g. max. 5 MB)
Text design
- Font selection: Provide 3-5 fonts that are easy to read
- Color options: If possible, limit colors to those that match your product
- Size limits: Set minimum and maximum sizes for text
Avoid common mistakes
Print area too small
Problem: Customers cannot place their content properly. Solution: Make print areas a little more generous.
Too many options
Problem: Customers are overwhelmed by too many setting options. Solution: Limit yourself to the most important options (mostly size, position, possibly color).
No preview optimization
Problem: Uploaded images look distorted in the preview. Solution: Make sure your print areas and view sizes are well aligned.
Missing validation
Problem: Customers upload unsuitable images (too small, wrong format). Solution: Implement validation rules for file type and size.
Combination with other features
With layer coloring
Combine overprints with eingefärbten Ebenen:
Ebene 1: T-Shirt (eingefärbt - Farbe wählbar)
Ebene 2: Muster (optional)
Druckbereich: Logo (vom Kunden hochgeladen)
This allows the customer to choose the product color AND add their own design.
With product variants
Offer different product variants with different print areas:
- "T-Shirt Basic": One print area on the front
- "Premium T-shirt": Print areas at the front and back
- "Deluxe T-shirt": Print areas at the front, back and on the sleeves
With templates
Instead of just free uploads, you can also offer templates:
- "Logo template" feature with ready-made designs
- "Logo upload" feature for your own images
- Both use the same print area
Legal information
Draw your customers' attention to the following:
- You are responsible for the rights to uploaded images
- No copyrighted logos or trademarks without authorization
- No offensive or illegal content
If necessary, implement a moderation or review loop before production.
Summary
With imprints on images you can:
✅ Enable individual personalization (logos, names, photos)
✅ Keep control over placement and design
✅ Flexible customization through configurable settings
✅ Production-ready templates thanks to automatic rendering
The combination of print areas, image uploads and text imprints offers your customers maximum individuality, while you retain control over the design and receive production-ready templates.
