Grouping

The plugin provides a dynamic Group model. Models that you place inside the group are positioned and rotated relative to the group: When you move the group, everything inside it moves with it.

Why You Need This

Imagine a desk with a monitor, keyboard, and an accessory on it. Without a group, each of these models is anchored to the scene’s origin. If you move the desk, you’ll have to recalculate the position of the other three models—in every rule line where they appear.

With a group, you position the three models once relative to the desk top. After that, you only need to move and rotate the group.

Typical scenarios:

  • A product consisting of multiple sub-models that is rotated as a whole—such as a half-open door leaf consisting of a frame, panel, and handle.
  • Accessories that are always located in the same place on the main product.
  • A complete assembly that is positioned in a different location depending on the customer’s selection.

Prerequisites

Setup

1. Create a Group

  • Open your configurator’s editor.
  • In the sidebar, click
    Loading...
    , then
    Loading...
    .
  • Select Group and click the “+” button.
  • Give the group a descriptive name, e.g., "Desk Assembly."

2. Place the group in the scene

Place the group in the scene using a rule, just like any other model, and position and rotate it there. You do this exactly as you did with statischen Modellen—via

Loading...
or via the
Loading...
dialog in the rule line.

The group itself is invisible. It serves only as the reference point for everything inside it.

3. Placing Models in the Group

Now, for each model action, decide whether the model should be placed directly into the scene as before or into the group:

  • Open the rule that displays the model.
  • Click the pencil icon in the header of the model column.
  • Under Slot Assignment, select your group.

The header will then show which group the action is drawing into.

4. Align Relative to the Group

The position, rotation, and scale you specify for a model in the group are now calculated from the group’s origin, not from the scene’s origin.

That’s the real benefit: you align the accessories once relative to the main product. It no longer matters where the main product ends up.

tip

Start with the group at the origin (position 0/0/0, no rotation). First, align all models inside it neatly with respect to each other, and then move the group to its final location.

Limitations

  • A group does not replace a Komponenten-Liste. It groups models together; it does not create sets.
  • Models that are not displayed by any rule will not appear in the group either. The group only changes where they are drawn, not whether.
