How do I set a minimum order value?

Pro

What is a minimum order value?

A minimum order value (MOV) is the minimum purchase value that a customer must reach when placing an order.

Example: If the configured price is below 100€, 100€ should be charged automatically.

When do I need a minimum order value?

Minimum order values are particularly useful when:

  • different color variants have different MOV: e.g. color red = 100€ MOV, other colors = 200€ MOV
  • Certain categories require a minimum volume: e.g. custom-made products generally have a higher minimum order value
  • Production costs require a minimum price: Regardless of the configuration, a certain minimum price must be reached

Set up minimum order value

Create article with minimum price

  • Go to Articles in the sidebar
  • Create a new item or edit an existing one
  • Click on
    Loading...
    or edit an existing price
  • Select minPrice (minimum price) as the price type
  • Enter the amount that should apply as the minimum order value
  • Select the Currency
  • Click on
    Loading...

Minimum order value at category level

You can also define minimum order values at category level. This works in a similar way to surcharges in categories:

  • If a minimum order value is defined for a category, this will be used
  • Otherwise, the minimum order value is used across all categories

This makes it possible to define different minimum order values for different product groups.

Assign articles to the configuration

Assign the item with the minimum price to the configuration as usual using rules:

  • Open the feature that is to trigger the minimum order value
  • Switch to the Actions tab
  • Check the Order item box
  • Select the item with the minimum price

Alternatively, you can also assign the minPrice article manually via a rule.

How does the minimum order value work?

If an article with a minimum price exists in the configuration:

Case 1: Price is below the minimum order value

Example: Minimum order value = 100€, configured price = 80€

  • The item is written to the parts list as usual
  • It is not displayed as a difference price (similar to hidden surcharges)
  • A warning appears in the Summary: "Minimum order value not reached" (or the item name)
  • The same warning is displayed in the PDF
  • The calculated total price is 100€ (the minimum order value)

Case 2: Price is above the minimum order value

Example: Minimum order value = 100€, configured price = 120€

  • The item is calculated normally
  • No warning is displayed
  • The minimum order value has no influence on the price calculation
  • The calculated total price is 120€

Display for the customer

The customer sees the minimum order value in the following situations:

  • In the summary: If the configured price is below the minimum order value, a warning appears
  • In the PDF: The warning is also displayed in the generated PDF
  • The total price: Always shows at least the minimum order value

The warning makes it clear to the customer that a minimum order value applies.

Testing the setup

To check whether the minimum order value is working correctly:

  1. Create a configuration with a minPrice item (e.g. MOV = 100€)
  2. Set the price below the minimum (e.g. 80€)
    • The warning should appear in summary and PDF
    • The total price should be 100€
  3. Set the price above the minimum (e.g. 120€)
    • The warning should disappear
    • The item should be priced normally at 120€
  4. Test different categories (if you have defined different MOV per category)
  5. Check the PDF export for the correct display of the warning
tip

The minimum order value only becomes active if the configured price is actually below the defined minimum price. If the price is higher, the minimum order value has no influence on the calculation.
