How do I create a selection?

A selection is the most common input option offered to users in configurators. It allows users to choose between different options for a specific product feature. Examples include: the size of a T-shirt, the type of handle on a cabinet, or the type of glass used in a photovoltaic system.

For this reason, K3 offers a range of options for selections.

Prerequisites

  • You have created a configurator.
  • You know that a feature of your product can be selected from multiple options.

Create a Feature

  • Open the configurator editor.
  • If you haven’t already done so, create the first configuration step by clicking on
    Loading...
    .
  • Now click on
    Loading...
    . This creates a feature.
  • Now select the type of the feature; in this case, "List." Other options include Color, Number, Yes/No, etc.
  • Now you can select the display for the new attribute. For a single-value selection, choose, for example,
    Loading...
    or
    Loading...
—a selection from multiple values can be displayed in various ways. You can change the display later as well.
  • Click on
    Loading...
. The new selection appears immediately in the configurator but is still empty.
  • Now give the new attribute the name that your customer should see.
  • You’ll now see the options where you can specify in more detail how the attribute works.
  • Next, you can specify which actions this selection should perform. For example, should it add specific items to the shopping cart, or change the product display? We’ll cover these aspects in the following articles.
  • Click on
    Loading...
  • You’ll now see the table of possible options (we call them values).
  • Now enter the values. To do this, specify the Display for each one.
  • Finally, click
    Loading...
. The selection is now set up.

Sorting Values

The order of the values in the table is also the order in the configurator.

  • Grab a row by the handle (the dotted area on the left) and drag it to the desired position.
  • Alternatively, use the keyboard: Move the cursor to the handle, press the spacebar to lift it, use the arrow keys to move it, and press the spacebar to drop it. Press Escape to cancel.
  • The new order is saved in a single step, even if you move a value across many positions.

Hiding Values

If, for example, you don’t want to display certain values—even if only temporarily—you can easily hide them in the value table by clicking the checkmark icon.

Editing Multiple Values at Once

In the value table, you can select multiple rows and then edit them in a single step.

  • Select the rows using the checkboxes in the first column. A message appears at the top indicating how many values are selected.
  • Now perform the action on one of the selected rows—it will then apply to the entire selection: delete, copy, enable/disable, move, or change a cell.
  • An action performed on a row outside the selection affects only that row, as usual.

Before deleting, K3 checks whether the values are still used in rules and displays this information.

The same functionality also works in Regelzeilen.

Multiple Selection

Sometimes you want the customer to be able to select not just one, but several values at once— for example, up to five samples from a list of 100 fabrics. The Multiple Selection characteristic type is designed for this purpose.

To create a multiple selection:

  • Click on
    Loading...
    .
  • Select "Multiple Selection" as the Type.
  • Select the Display:
    Loading...
    or
    Loading...
    .
  • Enter the values as you would for a normal selection.
  • Under Options, you’ll find the Multiple Selection Options section:
    • Maximum Number of Selections limits how many values the customer can select at once. Leave the field blank to allow all values.
    • Once the maximum is reached, the customer cannot make another selection until they deselect a different value.

This is how multiple selection behaves in other areas:

  • In Regeln, each selected value is treated individually, like multiple Yes/No attributes. This means you can display a separate 3D model or add a separate price for each selected value.
  • In the summary and in PDF, the selected values are listed separated by commas.
  • In Shop-API, the value is an array.
