Custom Color Selection via RGB or HEX

Question​

> We want our customers to be able to choose their own colors, so they should have access to a color slider or an input field for RGB or HEX values. Is there a feature for this in K3?

Answer​

Free color selection via a color slider, RGB, or HEX input is not supported in K3 and will not be implemented as a standard feature. It also cannot currently be reliably implemented via the plugin interface.

In practice, this is rarely a drawback: A freely chosen color value cannot be priced or manufactured, and a defined shade must be specified in the ordering process anyway.

A Large Color Selection Instead of Free Choice​

For cases where customers need to choose from a very large number of colors, the RAL selection feature is suitable. It includes a search function, ensuring that even a long list of colors remains manageable.

Using a plugin, you can customize this attribute and populate it with your own predefined colors instead of the RAL shades. This allows you to offer a large, searchable color selection without losing control over the colors that are actually available.

Custom Input Components​

In general, you can use the plugin interface to develop your own input components for attributes and integrate them into the configurator. We do not recommend this approach for a free color selection, but it is a viable option for other input types.
